JQL Search Page
Build and run SnapJQL queries with fresh results
Write, test, and explore SnapJQL queries in a visual search interface, with a function explorer, live results, and no Atlassian function-cache delay.
Who is this for? All SnapJQL users. This is the default page when you open the SnapJQL app.
Why use the JQL Search Page instead of Jira Issue Navigator?
Always fresh results
The JQL Search page does not rely on Jira’s cached function results (Atlassian precomputations, cached up to 7 days). It resolves SnapJQL functions and queries Jira directly each time, giving you accurate, up-to-date results for functions involving dates, hierarchy, comments, agile sprints, and more.
| Jira Issue Navigator | SnapJQL - JQL Search Page |
|---|---|---|
Function cache | Results can be stale for up to 7 days | Fresh results on every search |
1,000 issue hard error | Yes — see below | No — automatic pagination |
Function explorer | Not built in | Full explorer + parameter modal |
SnapJQL columns ( | Not available | Add via Add fields |
Hierarchy tree view | Flat list only | Show in hierarchy for link/parent queries |
For filters you reuse in Jira dashboards, set up automatic sync on the Filters page to keep Jira’s function cache fresh. See Function cache.
No 1,000 issue limit
Jira Cloud’s Issue Navigator enforces a hard limit: if a JQL function returns more than 1,000 issues, the Issue Navigator shows an error.
The SnapJQL JQL Search page has no such restriction. It automatically paginates through all results — tens of thousands of issues — without failing.
Note: Very large queries (approximately 100,000+ issues) may be blocked with a message asking you to narrow your JQL. This is a performance guard, not the 1,000-issue Jira cap.
Full support for SnapJQL functions
Shows a full function explorer for all SnapJQL functions and properties
Click any function to open a form-based modal and insert it into your query
Native Jira JQL editor with autocomplete
Pin frequently used functions for quick access
Before your first search
If initial indexing has not been completed, a warning banner appears with a link to Indexing.
SnapJQL columns and function results only reflect indexed issues. Run indexing for historical data before expecting complete results.
How to use the JQL Search Page
Go to SnapJQL → JQL Search.
Type your JQL query, including any SnapJQL functions — or build one using the Function explorer.
Click Search.
Scroll through all results — pagination is automatic (15 issues per page).
Customize columns using the Add fields selector.
Optionally export results to Excel or PDF.
Save your query as a filter if needed.

Each function in the list shows its description and inline examples. Click any function name to open the full modal.
Function / property modal
Clicking any function opens the Insert JQL functions and properties modal. It simplifies inserting SnapJQL functions into your query by showing details, examples, and lookup dropdowns — no syntax knowledge required.
Workflow:
Select any function from the right-hand function explorer (or from within the modal’s left list).
The modal opens with parameter fields.
Choose operators, pick values, or use auto-suggest fields.
The modal shows a preview of the query that will be inserted.
Click Insert to Query to place it into your JQL editor.
Click Search to run.
The modal includes:
Examples for every function
Parameter validation (required fields, balanced parentheses/quotes)
Auto-complete for statuses, boards, sprints, users, fields, link types
User lookup — search Jira users and insert account IDs automatically
Real-time JQL generation — preview updates as you fill parameters
Works with all SnapJQL functions, including Agile and History functions
See All functions and properties page for more samples
Search results
After a successful search:
Issue count is shown at the top.
Results appear in a table with your chosen columns.
Pagination — Previous / Next, page jump, and “Page X of Y (Z total issues)”.
Add fields — Jira vs SnapJQL fields
After running a JQL query, add or remove columns with Add fields. The picker is split into two collapsible groups:
Group | Contents |
|---|---|
Jira fields | Standard Jira fields from your instance (same pool as in Jira field configuration) |
SnapJQL fields | Indexed properties from the SnapJQL entity property ( |

Show in hierarchy
When your JQL uses SnapJQL hierarchy or link functions, a Show in hierarchy checkbox appears above the results.
[SCREENSHOT: Hierarchy view — indented Key column with collapse toggles and link icons]
Functions (examples) | Effect |
|---|---|
| Results shown as a tree with indentation on Key |
| Related issues grouped under parents/links |
Any hierarchy/link function with hierarchy on | Collapse/expand rows where multiple nested issues exist |
How it works:
The table refetches issues with parent/link data needed for the tree.
Hover issue keys for relation path tooltips.
If hierarchy is off, results are a flat list with normal pagination.
Save and load filters
Load a saved filter
Click Load saved filter above the JQL editor → pick a filter → JQL loads into the editor → click Search.
Save a filter
After a successful search with results:
Click Save Filter.
Enter a name.
Optionally enable Automatic sync (1×, 2×, or 4× per day) to keep Jira’s function cache updated.
Click Save.
The filter is saved to Jira and registered in SnapJQL. Manage sync on the Filters page.
Export results
Use the Export button above the results table:
Export to Excel — full result set as a spreadsheet
Export to PDF — formatted report
Export fetches all matching issues in the background (not just the current page) and shows progress while loading.
Troubleshooting
